Cohesive Marketing Part One - Morgan Glover Evans

What is cohesive marketing? Cohesive marketing is a strategy employed by producers and publishers in order to ensure that all platforms that promote their product are cohesive; they all have the same brand identity . This is communicated through any number of means: A Particular Font:  Some franchises have used a particular font or typography style to the point that their entire brand is carried by it. Take the font used for the Harry Potter series, for example. The jagged edges and narrow, bold letters have become a universally recognised symbol of not only the film series, but the story world itself.  Here, you can see how the typography of the Harry Potter series links them across multiple different mediums, from a film poster, to a review page cover and even a video game.  When applying this to our own, I think we should find our own unique typography and make sure we stay consistent with our decisions. If we do so, I think we'll be able to fi...

Empire Magazines are a very good and reliable source of honest reviews on all things film. It is a British film magazine published monthly by Bauer Media Group. From the first issue in July 1989, the magazine was edited by Barry McIlheney and published by Emap. Bauer purchased Emap Consumer Media in early 2008. It is the biggest selling film magazine in the United Kingdom and is also published in the United States, Australia, Turkey, Russia, Italy and Portugal. Empire organises the annual Empire Awards which were sponsored by Sony Ericsson, and from 2009 sponsored by Jameson. Empire publish reviews on films, games, television shows and some other things. The main aspect that appeals to me is their honesty and ability to be able to relate to their reviews. As of their most recent edition, there have been over 150,000 hard copies and digital copies distributed. Empire's work is very closely related to one of our ancillary products. Empire have analysed al...

Progress Update 3

My college has recently split up for summer and the other members of my group have been on holiday, the distance between us and our need for a break has resulted in almost no communications between us and not much work being done. However, we are all back in touch again now and we have got back on top of the workload. The break has been very insightful for all three of us as we were able to take a step back and look at what we really want from our product. Our ideas have deviated slightly from what we originally thought we could create due to practicality of the process.

Progress Update 2

Based on our coursework from last year, I will be taking the lead on the ancillary tasks as that is where my strengths lay. I will still be putting in an equal effort to the main task as my other group members, however I will most likely be following their lead in it. In taking this responsibility I hope to be able to showcase the skills that I have picked up over the course. Also, I hope to teach my fellow team members some of these skill in order to apply them to the main task. This learning process will hopefully go both ways and they can teach me what they have learnt in order to be able to put in as much effort as is possible.

Progress Update 1

In a quick report, my group has decided that in order to create a successful product, we must keep in mind practicality. To do this we have begun to think about production, narrative and story. Not only have we begun this but we have also came up with 2 contingency plans in case of  any doubts of practicality. My personal role in this, is deciding how were going to link the magazine review to the film itself. Also, with help of last years research and experience gained, a layout and style. It is possible that the film review may be found in a special edition of my magazine brand that I created last year.
