Topic Research

Image
This post encompasses our topic research. Within it, I'll be breaking down the factual knowledge and information we need to consider before generating a story and script for our short film. Anxiety Among Young People This is the first major area that I wanted to study and understand, as our main character (currently unnamed) will have at least some small part of an anxiety disorder due to his upbringing and domestic relationships. After searching for material on this subject, I came across a short film created by Philip Coleman on BBC Three called Life Through My Lens . http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/52ycrj32fNPXqqGsWWvksK7/mental-health I was able to pull a lot of really interesting pieces of information from this short. It was deeply personal and touching, and helped spread light on a topic that can often be difficult to understand from an external perspective. Here are a few major things I noted down:  'It's like there's two people':

Conventions

Image
It's important to recognise the basic conventions we've learnt from our form and genre research Main Production - Visual Style I think this mood board nicely summarises my direction for the visual style. We don't intend to break convention here. It wouldn't mean much for our production, and may end up detracting from our narrative if we attempt to include really saturated colours. It would counter our mood. Instead, we're aiming for the more grey-scale, washed-out and overcast look shown above. Especially considering that we want to shoot in a low-light environment, a saturated pallet would not really fit.  Main Production - Narrative Themes It's always been the focus of British social realist films to make a point.  Whether it be about race, class, or other social issues, social realism is all about bringing to light issues that the director or writer feels is ignored. As such, the narrative is geared to showing this message. Twi

Email to Professionals

Here is a copy of the email that I sent to an editor of Empire Magazines (owned by Bauer Media Group). The aim of this email is to try to gain the perspective of a professional that is already in the field and what they believe is the most important aspect of the magazine review. This will guide me in knowing where to focus most of my time when creating the ancillary task.

Similar Products: Beginning: Chronologically, starting at the beginning of the film, it is very typical to see the title card of the film as a form of marketing. It links to the cohesive marketing aspect of the project. This is because of the brand identity created with the film and this is usually what is seen on products made by synergetic relationships between companies. Some credits also role to show some of the actors that are featuring in the film. This is used because if the audience didn’t already know who was in the film and was sceptical about watching the film, seeing some familiar names may entice them to continue watching. Furthermore, the production companies involved are also always shown, this is a method of marketing their other products. Form Conventions - Production Companies: Typically, almost every film regardless of the genre will have a starting sequence that contains all production companies involved in the making of the film. The purpose of this is to

Progress Update 4

Image
Development has begun to slow down, we are at a creative stand still, however this hasn't stopped us on getting on with some other tasks that are vital towards the production. We have began to look for some actors that could be cast for roles in our short film. So far, we have been in contact with 4 potential actors, 2 of these are fellow students in my college that are drama students and have told us that they would be more than happy to help. The third, is a friend of Morgan-Glover Evans and Jake Foulkes. Morgan got in touch with him and this was his reply:   The final person we got in touch with was an old friend of mine who happens to be a very successful rising actor, preforming multiple shows at the Curve Theatre each year.   Our main issue so far is that all of these people are lads the same age as us, we are yet to recruit an older actor that is preferably female to act as a mother to the young lad. Also, locations still seem to be a obstacle that we aren't
